2012: Thirty Years of New Mutants

Next year will mark thirty years since the first appearance of the 3rd generation of X-Men, a.k.a. the New Mutants or "Muties." Thirty. The big 3-0. This year is to the NMs what 1991 was to the FF, or 1992 to Spider-Man. LOL To fans who were kids buying the first New Mutants comics, that's a difficult thing to mentally sort out! By now they should all have been X-Men, right? But whatever, it's 2011 now and I'm looking for fun ways to mark the event. Suggestions are welcome.

New Mutants Forever - Wolfsbane Almost Never

As ever, excerpted from an interview by Newsarama:

"Claremont shares that the main characters throughout the five issues will be Cannonball, Magik, Magma, Sunspot and Warlock."

Five issues, New Mutants circa 1987 pre-Simonson...but Rahne is not a main character.

Someone clue me in, is she still pregnant? Is she carrying the mutant messiah or whatever the latest crossover was about? I've not spent a dime on comics for at least a year now. :)

What I'd Give for Just A Little Rahne

Excerpted from Newsarama's interview with Leonard Kirk, the new artist for New Mutants:

Kirk: The appealing thing about this project for me is that I will be drawing most of the characters I enjoyed in the original graphic novel by Claremont and McLeod in the 1980’s.

Nrama: Can you name a few of the characters you'll be drawing and explain what your approach will be for each character?

Kirk: I'll be drawing the regular line up: Cannonball, Mirage, Karma, Magma, Sunspot, Magik, Cypher and Warlock.

Sounds like if Rahne is going to any regular series, it still isn't this one.

Sooner Than You Think

From an interview with Zeb Wells at ComicBookResources.com :

We want to have Rahne peek in on her friends as soon as possible, and anyone who follows the great “X-Force” knows they have a lot to talk about. Our path and X-Force’s may be crossing sooner than you think.

Sweet and Sour

It's official. New Mutants Reunion.

Interview with writer Zeb Wells here, in which Wells says:
"Wolfsbane won’t be playing a large role in New Mutants, as she’s being used (and used incredibly well) by Craig Kyle and Chris Yost in "X-Force." If she ever becomes available we’ll see how she fits into the team, but I’ll admit that I’m in no hurry to see that happen."

New Mutants Saga, Rumorpedia, & Found Image

By now you likely have seen the announcement for New Mutants Saga. If not, look here: http://www.marvel.com/catalog/?id=11465 . What concerns me though is that "April 1" release date, if you know what I mean.

Wikipedia claims it'll be an ongoing series, but whether that's insight or speculation is anyone's guess. Read further and you'll see what sounds way too good to be true -- a New Mutants movie, allegedly in pre-production.

Lastly, a found image, I honestly can't remember where I got it. If it's not someone just fooling around, then I hope they adjust the style about 15 years back.
