New Mutants Forever - Wolfsbane Almost Never

As ever, excerpted from an interview by Newsarama:

"Claremont shares that the main characters throughout the five issues will be Cannonball, Magik, Magma, Sunspot and Warlock."

Five issues, New Mutants circa 1987 pre-Simonson...but Rahne is not a main character.

Someone clue me in, is she still pregnant? Is she carrying the mutant messiah or whatever the latest crossover was about? I've not spent a dime on comics for at least a year now. :)

Wolfsbane is, at least, on the artwork I've seen for "New Mutants Forever". I can't imagine why she wouldn't be a main character.

As for her current status, yeah. I cannot say enough bad about Kyle and Yost and their horrible mistreatment of our favorite character.

Gah. She totally needs a re-boot.

But, I'm the fan who thinks her handling has gone downhill not long after Sienkiewicz stopped doing the art.

A quick rundown of Wolfsbane's status.

Rahne and her wolf prince Harry have an intimate moment in Warren Worthington's chalet, their tryst is interupted by an attack of frost giants. The two dispatch said giants and Rahne seems to have been gravely injured during the attack. Harry carries Rahne back to the chalet and resolves to find mutant healer Josh Foley (Elixer).

Archangel and Warpath find the two and transport them to some joint called Utopia where Elixer is mortally wounded himself. After an examination everyone discovers that Rahne is pregnant with Harry's child, a baby being the result of a coupling between a mortal and an immortal is threatening Rahne's life. Apparently mortal wombs can't handle immortal babies.

Harry, in a moment of desperation, summons the Goddess of Death Hela and strikes a bargain for Rahne's life in exchange for his own soul. Hela revives Elixer, Elixer fixes up Rahne.

Apparently Elixer synched up Rahne's physiology with her superbaby increasing Rahne's physical attributes (quoting from Elixer, "it, uh, that might be my fault. When I matched your DNA to the baby's… I think your baby is going to be really strong. Your skin and muscle density is different too, I don't even think a bullet would break your skin.")

To sum up, the Necrosha storyline is finished and Rahne seems to be finished with X-Force.

They might as well give Rahne her own title at this point given her new characteristics. They won't of course.

Well, somebody decided to give Rahne some love at C2E2 this weekend…

Man. That new Rahne stuff seems way too crazy. Now I really believe she needs a re-boot something awful...

So this is how Wolfsbane is going to get back into the spotlight…

Complete with a reboot.

I dunno. The "alternate reality" bit can become a crutch.

unless they mention Wolfsbane by name, I'm not going to believe it.

Also, I can't trust an article that says that Karma didn't appear in GN #4.

I'm sure everyone has seen this by now, but this is why she's not going to be in New Mutants..

RahneFan said...

I hadn't seen it, Ritter. Thanks! Who is she fighting there? Any idea why?

Oh man!

That's Shatterstar Rahne's whupping up on.

As to why, well, he's a creation of Rob Liefield's so that's reason enough in my book. :D

Great news! (At least for those of us willing to trust in the word of solicitations...)

Written by PETER DAVID

What's the single most-asked question we've been getting at X-Factor Central? Will Wolfsbane, cut adrift from X-Force, return to X-Factor? The answer is a resounding "yes." But how is she going to react when she discovers that Rictor and Shatterstar are a couple? Not all that well as Shatterstar finds himself in the fight of his life. And how will Rictor react when he discovers that Rahne is pregnant? What, you want us to tell you everything? We have to leave SOMEthing for you to discover for yourself in what is sure to be the most-talked about X-book of the month, if not the year.

Words cannot express my joy!

No, I'm just late with the news.
